Midwest Alliance for Patient Safety
The Midwest Alliance for Patient Safety focuses its efforts on improving patient safety and reducing harm in health care. As part of the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA), we have the insight and expertise needed to help address the unique challenges facing Illinois providers.
There are several components to our offerings
Midwest Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) Patient Safety Organization (PSO) – MAPS PSO offers healthcare providers the opportunity to work together to reduce serious events and patient harm within the federal confidentiality and privilege protections of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005. We offer:
- Full privileges & confidentiality
- Secure adverse event data-collection solutions
- Peer networking/learning/sharing
- Educational tools to improve patient safety

We promote best practices through Partnerships
IHA Institute for Innovations in Care and Quality and the Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN). The Institute is committed to informing and empowering IHA members in advancing Illinois as a person-centered, national model for high-value healthcare. About HIIN:
- The HIIN initiative is a collaborative venture with the Michigan Hospital Association’s Keystone Center and the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
- HIIN is a national public-private partnership.
Illinois Medication Safety Coalition – This new initiative is a collaboration between Illinois pharmacists and other interested members to promote medication safety and best practices.
